چکیده

To fill an N-sided hole on a NURBS surface and to blend a corner formed by NURBS surfaces, we propose a regular N-sided open uniform quadratic subdivision surface derived by applying the open uniform quadratic subdivision scheme to a regular N-sided control mesh which is confined to the hole or to the region of the vertex blend. Boundary conditions such as C and G-continuity required for the hole filling and vertex blending, are ensured by certain refinement steps performed in the course of the subdivision. The shape of the filling or blending surface is controlled by using fullness parameters. Methods are also proposed to represent the resulting regular N-sided open uniform quadratic subdivision surface using non-uniform rational B-spline surfaces.

A rational extension of Piegl's method for filling n-sided holes

N -sided hole filling plays an important role in vertex blending. To deal with the case that the corner is surrounded by rational surfaces (i.e. NURBS surfaces), an algorithm to fill n-sided holes with ε-G1 continuous NURBS patches that interpolate the given boundary curves and approximate the given cross-boundary derivatives is presented based on Piegl’s method. The NURBS surfaces joining alon...

Filling N-sided Holes Using Combined Subdivision Schemes

A new method is presented for calculating N-sided surface patches. The algorithm generates a subdivision surface which satisses arbitrary C 1 boundary conditions. The proposed subdivision scheme is based on a Catmull-Clark type subdivision scheme that operates in the surface interior. Near the boundary we introduce new subdivision rules that involve the given boundary conditions. The generated ...

Filling an N-sided hole using combined subdivision schemes

A new algorithm is presented for filling n-sided holes. The algorithm generates a subdivision surface which connects smoothly (G) with the surface around the hole. The data to the algorithm consists of n boundary curves and cross boundary derivatives, given in any parametric form. The algorithm is based on Sabin’s variant of CatmullClark scheme [1], which operates in the surface interior. Near ...

Minimal Mean-Curvature-Variation Surfaces and Their Applications in Surface Modeling

Physical based and geometric based variational techniques for surface construction have been shown to be advanced methods for designing high quality surfaces in the fields of CAD and CAGD. In this paper, we derive a Euler-Lagrange equation from a geometric invariant curvature integral functional–the integral about the mean curvature gradient. Using this Euler-Lagrange equation, we construct a s...
